A picturesque village 13km inland from the Costa del Sol, approx. 430 metres above sea level with panoramic views down to the coast, the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Morocco. It is a village of narrow, winding streets centered around a typical Andalucian plaza with fountain.Casares is one of the "pueblos blancos" (white villages) of Spain and its stunning setting, perched precariously on the side of a rocky gorge, make it one of the most photographed villages in Spain. It is steeped in history, dating back to Roman times. There is a strong Moorish influence as evidenced by the ruins of an Arabic castle at the very top of the village.
The countryside around Casares is well known for its stunning scenery and abundant wildlife. Just next to the village of Casares lies the Sierra Crestellina Nature Reserve. Casares is very popular with birdwatchers and walkers.
Just a 15 minute drive from the coast and the towns of Estepona and Manilva, Casares is close to all amenities yet maintains its rural country feel.
